This Italian Sausage Bake is the perfect comforting dish for any night of the week. Juicy mild Italian sausages are browned and then baked with sautéed bell peppers, onions, and a rich marinara sauce. Topped with melted mozzarella cheese, this hearty dish is full of bold flavors and ready in just under an hour. It’s easy to prepare and pairs perfectly with pasta, crusty bread, or rice for a satisfying meal!

Ingredients:

  • 2 Packs of Mild Italian Sausage
  • 24 oz Marinara Sauce (I use Raos or homemade)
  • 4 oz Mozzarella Slices
  • 4 oz Parmesan shredded cheese
  • 2 Bell Peppers Sliced
  • 1 Large Yellow Onion Sliced

Instructions:

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
  • Heat a skillet over medium heat, add a drizzle of olive oil, and cook the Italian sausages for about 5-7 minutes, turning occasionally until they are browned on the outside but not fully cooked through. Slice the sausage into 1 inch pieces and set aside.
  • In the same skillet, add a little butter and more olive oil if needed. Toss in the sliced bell peppers and onions. Sauté until softened and slightly caramelized, about 5-6 minutes. Remove from heat.
  • In a large baking dish, pour half of the marinara sauce into the bottom. Add the sliced sausages on top, then layer the sautéed peppers and onions over the sausages. Pour the remaining marinara sauce evenly on top.
  • Wrap dish with foil and bake for 20 minutes.
  • Remove foil from pan and add slices of cheese. Broil on low for another 15 minutes.
  • Allow to cool before serving!

This dish pairs well with crusty bread, pasta, or over rice! Enjoy!
